Forres Groups Action Ltd - Whats New
Forres Groups Action Ltd is a group of community organisations working together for mutual support and to help other local voluntary groups for the benefit of the wider community. The office, currently known as the Hub, is open from 10am to 3pm Mondays to Fridays and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. We now have 4 modern computers available for use and enabling us to offer computer familiarisation courses & public internet access, raising funds which will help to ensure our continued operation. A new A3/A4 colour photocopier/printer also enhances the range of support for voluntary groups.
In November 2008 a Hub Member Group, Transition Towns Forres received a Grant from the Climate Challenge Fund of £184,119.00 enabling their allotments group to bid for land for allotments, set up a farmers market in the town, reducing the dependency on supermarkets and thereby lowering the carbon footprint of the community.
FGA provides and updates, with the help of the Forres Community Web Association, seven Public Access Information Screens located in the town. Location sites include the Public Library, the Northern Fish Restaurant, Toast, Beaver Travel, FGA office, Tesco’s and the Ben Romach Distillery Visitor Centre. The touch screen machines give local information on services for visitors, community and businesses.
New volunteers are always welcome and, after training, will enable us to extend our opening hours and range of skills still further. If you have time to spare and would like to become involved please call in for more information or ring 672244.
