A Brief History Forres
Groups Action Ltd
Forres Groups Action Ltd. (FGA) is an association of voluntary and community groups working together for mutual support and to help other local voluntary groups for the benefit of the wider community. Founded in 2004 it was a development from the North West Moray Rural Partnership, which in turn was a development from the Forres Community Forum. Historically the original concept grew out of a concern for youth in the local area and consequently the main thrust of our effort is targeted towards those who live within the catchment area of Forres Academy.
A number of quotes follow from those who have both contributed to and benefited from the efforts of Forres Groups Action Ltd:
The Hub is open, with the help of its volunteers, for six days in the week. From Monday to Friday the opening hours are 10am to 3pm and on Saturdays we open from 10am to 1pm. If you would like to help us please phone 01309 672244 (during those hours) or fax the same number and our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
The hub gives heart to a caring body
Forres Community Woodlands Trust came into being to preserve woodlands in and around Forres for the community. When land came up for sale unexpectedly, the Forres Resource Centre became the hub of activity, supporting the Trust in its endeavours to raise the money to finance the purchase. Fundraising, administration personnel and the enormous enthusiasm of the staff was invaluable. Consequently the F.C.W.T. has used the F.G.A. office regularly.
If Forres lost the Hub, we’d be losing the heart of volunteering in this area.
The lottery had been a four year ambition of the Forres Community Forum prior to the establishment of the Community Resource centre. Our volunteers did not have time to process the idea. When the Community Resource Centre was established, the problem was given to them and the idea was processed and actioned. The Forres Own Lottery operated for three years before closing.
The hub is the central contact available during the working day.
Without the support, expertise and encouragement of Forres Community Action Group, Mundole Futures Community Company would not have been able to progress as far as it did.
